VENUS AND THE MOON

© 2002 Laura Golden

the wind is warm and strong tonight
open all the windows of my house
and let this breeze blow through --
this breeze blow through

am I really seein', am I really seein'
I can't believe I'm seein'
venus and the moon

how many nights they've shared the same sky
how many centuries gone by
how many days, by light, invisible
how many other eyes look up tonight, so full

ah! the sound arises on its own
honoring and forgiving
all the times I've written across the sky with one hand
and erased with the other

am I really seein', am I really seein'
could it be I'm seein'
venus and the moon

it's one thing to have thought
"oh for the chance, oh for the chance"
and quite another thing to take it
it's one thing to have thought
"everything is as it should be"
and quite another to find --
to find it written,
written on the door of your own heart
I found it there on mine

am I really seein', am I really seein'
how perfect to be seein'
venus and the moon
venus shining right beside the moon
